Summer So Far

aWe've had a busy summer so far to say the least. We're only 4 weeks in and I've already traveled to Dallas for a bachelorette party, College Station for a teaching conference, and Gulf Shores for vacation. Now that we're back home and back in our daily routine, I have time to update you all on what's been going on. As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words." And since I have thousands of pictures, I guess that equals, well, a lot of words. So I'll just let the pictures do the talking. Nearly every moment in our lives these days is a "Kodak moment," so I'll try to limit the pictures to my absolute favorites!

Laney spent the beginning of the summer practicing sitting up and playing with her toys. Her hand-eye coordination is improving each day. She's so fun to watch because she learns how to do something new each day.

We then loaded her up for her first airplane ride to Gulf Shores, AL! I've gone there every summer since I was little. But this time was extra special because it was Miss Laney's first time. She did SO GOOD on the plane rides and entertained everyone.

Since there were globs of oil in the ocean from the BP oil spill, we spent most of our time at the pool. Laney didn't know the difference, though, and had a blast in her float.

As soon as we got back to Texas, it was time to head to Marshall's cousin Brandon's wedding in Fort Worth. We had so much fun and got to see a lot of his family there. Laney got to see her cousin Kate, who is only two weeks older than her. They will be so glad to have each other in years to come.

After the wedding weekend, we came home and got back in our routine. I've been tutoring in the mornings Monday-Thursday. I've actually really enjoyed doing this- it reminds me how much I love teaching. We've also started to visit some churches around here since neither Marshall or I have one we regularly attend. We really want to find one to join soon so that Laney can grow up in Sunday school and in a church home. It's hard to decide what to look for in a church since they are all so different and none of them are perfect. We're trying to keep in mind that the point of being a part of a church is community, and since people aren't perfect, there's no perfect church community. We just need to find one that we can get involved in.

Other exciting news: two of my best girlfriends, Mendy & Madisen, are engaged and both are having destination weddings. Our group of "Girls Weekend" friends have been busy making plans for their showers. Marshall is so excited because he really enjoys both of their fiances and will have lots of guys to talk sports with at all of the upcoming wedding festivities- ha! The first shower we're having is next weekend. I'll let you know how it goes!

Nanners for Laney

We just figured out how to load video from our camcorder onto the computer. Mel wanted me to add this video to the blog. It's from back in April when we tried to feed Laney solids for the first time. Her reaction to these bananas is too cute.

Then, Laney started telling us just how she felt about everything.
